For your reading pleasure!

Chapter 1 of The Redemption of Philip Thane is now available on my site!

If you’ve read other books in the series,* you’ll meet up right away with a familiar character: the shrewd, outspoken Penhallow matriarch Henrietta, who sends the incorrigible rake Philip Thane off on what he thinks is a silly errand — but which changes in his life in ways he could never have imagined. And of course you’ll meet Miss Margaret Allen: brainy, spirited, and (in this chapter at least) entirely unimpressed by Philip.

The Redemption of Philip Thane

“A Regency riff on the movie Groundhog Day . . . brilliantly enhanced by a stellar cast of characters . . . and generous measures of the author’s wry wit and wondrous sense of whimsy.” —Booklist, starred review

* But don’t worry if you haven’t! Although the Penhallow Dynasty books are interconnected, each one can be read as a standalone. :)

In a starred review, Kirkus said:

“Berne’s third Penhallow title maintains the exquisite writing, lush emotion, and complex characters we’ve come to expect. . . . An elegant, poignant, and joyful romance and a must-read for Regency fans.”

In another starred review, this one from Publishers Weekly:

“In Berne’s marvelous third Penhallow Dynasty Regency (after The Laird Takes a Bride), reunited friends find that a hasty marriage leads to significant challenges. . . . Beautifully written. Regency fans will love this forthright, intellectual heroine and affable, resourceful hero.”

And Love in a Time of Feminism cheered:

“It is a well-known fact that I love me some historical romance, especially when it involves heroines doing the wooing; marriages of convenience that involve hot, hot sex; and strong family dynamics. Therefore, this book checked every box for me. . . . I would recommend this book to: Lovers of joyful historicals that leave you feeling like you’ve just meditated for 3 hours, petted a cat and been gifted a lifetime supply of chocolate chip cookies.”
